            Abstract:
In this new medical research it is revealed that Women taking antidepressant drugs particularly selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors had 39% increase symptoms of stroke in women. Examples of these drugs are Prozac, Zoloft, and Clexa.

Depression can increase the severity of  other medical problems like diabetes and hypertension. The women with depression are usually do not concentrate at their physical activities like exercise and normal jogging. They are also usually addicted to some narcotics, smoking and alcohol. All these factors could contribute to risk of stroke. The risk of strok increases in the presence of High blood pressure and high BMI (Body Mass Index)

            Objective:
Stroke due to depression may be associated with variety of mechanism. It may b linked to inflammation, which
can increase the risk of stroke as well as other vascular disease of brain. The objective of this research is that
physician should focus on stroke related risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol
while treating the depression as well as addressing lifestyle behaviour such as exercise and smoking.

            Design:

80,574 women 54 to 79 years old in the Nurses.

            Setting or Place:
Physicians from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston took this research. Dr. Kathryn Rexrode was the head of this study and American Stroke Association Rapid Excess Journal Report  this.

            Result of the research:
More Than 20% percent of women had the  depression at the start of this medical research. At the end of the research i.e during 6 years (2000-2006) 1,033 stroke cases were reported. Antidepressants can prevent individual from controlling other medical problems like stroke.

            Conclusion:
Anti-depressant drugs can increase symptoms of stroke in women but this study do not suggest that people should stop their medication to reduce the risk of stroke. Its up to your physician that how can he manage. He must take a proper medical check up and consider all the parameter before starting a drug therapy.

Even if it is just a study yet, I never thought that Anti-depressant drugs can increase symptoms of stroke in women.
If this study will be proven true, i would inform my colleagues about this.

            Thanks for the information...

Its quite strange to know about the harsh effect of anti-depressants on women health, most of the people like me, do not know much about such side effects of anti depressants. nice and informative post

Outside of teaching CPR classes, I have been a paramedic for more than 10 years. Anti-depressants work well for some, but in the wrong hands, it could prove fatal in the long-term.

Thanks for your post. The same research also stated that "it remains unclear" from our data whether antidepressants are solely responsible for the greater mortality rate among users. They claim that depression itself could be related to the increased stroke and death rates.

I just gained a new knowledge from this research. People do use Anti-depressant drugs to relieve from a stress and yet, people don't know that they are just adding a new stress..Thanks a lot for this post.
