Pomegranate Extracts help in skin protection 07/29/2011
Abstract: According to new research pomegranate and berries extracts protect the skin from harm full effect of UV light and also prevents wrinkles. Objectives: In this new research article it was revealed that pomegranate and berries are rich in Ellagic acid & Ellagitannins which protects skin from wrinkles & also from cutaneous inflammation associated with UV exposure leading to photo aging. Design: Korean researchers used human fibroblasts and human skin cells (keratinocytes). These cells produce the extracellular matrix and collagen in the skin as they were exposed to UV-B radiations and Ellagic acid. It was revealed that the poly phenol reduces the UV-B induced toxicity of these cells which also prevent degradation of collagen & wrinkle formation. Setting & Place: This research was conducted by Korean Scientist. Participants: 10 micro moles per liter Ellagic acid was applied on hair less mice. It was associated with reduction in the production of pro inflammatory compounds interleukin-1beta(IL-1b) & IL-6. Result: The result demonstrate that collagen destruction and inflammatory responses caused by UV-B can b prevented by Ellagic acid. I've heard pomegranate is really good for lots of health benefits... Do you have to use the extract, though, or can you get the same results from eating the seeds or drinking the juice?

I am very satisfied to the result of the experiment. But how long can the ellagic acid protect our skin into the UV light? Is it a reduction or full protection against that UV light?

I think it is just the extract. Although that would be great if the juice itself worked.

I know berries are rich in Ellagic acid & Ellagitannins but I don't read anything about it yet. Based on the result of your experiment, berries can protect us from UV light!

Thanks for your post. Pomegranate seed oil stimulates the production of collagen in the skin, which means wrinkled skin will appear thicker and plumper and more filled in as a result of pomegranate products applied directly to the skin.
