            Dark Chocolate and exercise may reduce Induced Oxidative Stress 05/18/2011

            Abstract:

            If a person consumes a flavonoid rich dark chocolate before exercise, it may decrease the chances of damage of muscles due to oxidative stress.

            Objective:

            The main objective of this research was to study the effectiveness of the dark chocolate against the Induced Oxidative stress which may seriously damage the muscles. It is proposed that the Intake of Dark chocolate before the exercise may increase the anti-oxidants in plasma which may result decrease in compound called F2-isoprostane. The Initial Results supported the idea which resulted in a series of research.

            Design:

            It was proposed that oxidative stress has been linked to various diseases like Cancer, Alzheimer’s and Cardiovascular diseases. It was also noticed that the extended period of exercise are also often used to model physical stress, and that this may be eased by consumption of poly-phenol rich dark chocolate.

            Setting or Place:

            This study was conducted by Nestle Research Center. The scientists were affiliated with Lough borough University, University of Newcastle in UK, and the Nestle Research Center in Lausanne, Switzerland. This center have already published many health articles.

            Participants:

            • 14 Healthy Men participated in the research who took 100gm of dark chocolate 2 hour before the cycling.

            Results:

            The antioxidant status was increased in those people who have taken 100 gram bar of chocolate before 2.5 hours of cycling which resulted in marked decrease in F2-isoprostane.

            Conclusion:

            Chocolate is moving beyond confectionery now. Try this as it is very easy and tasty too. This medical information again tell us the importance of exercise in our daily life.

            Indeed, oxidative stress produces free radicals which damage muscle cells and can lead to cancerous tumors.
            Consuming fruits & vegetables daily would help solve the problem..
