We all probably know that vitamins are important to our bodies’ well being. Typically, we try to consume these vitamins through our daily diet. That’s why a well-rounded diet full of fruits, vegetables, and protein-rich meat is so important.

However, most people don’t take in the amount of nutrients their body requires. That is when vitamin supplements come into play. Vitamin supplements fill in the gaps that our diet leaves. Confused about which ones to take? These are some of the most important supplements and what they do in your body.

            Vitamin B-12

B-12 is a water-soluble vitamin compound that is necessary for the normal functioning of the nervous system. When you have a B-12 deficiency, you will feel fatigued and could even feel depressed or have some memory loss. B-12 comes in a regular pill form to be added to your routine supplements. However, many people like to take it in liquid form or in a quickly dissolving tablet; both of these lead to rapid absorption and, therefore, an energy boost.

            Vitamin C

Vitamin C could be the most important and widely beneficial of the vitamins. Its effects on your body are tremendous: restores stress hormones; reduces the risk of many cancers, including breast cancer; boosts the immune system; aids in iron absorption. Unfortunately, C is a weak vitamin that is easily broken down by oxygen. This means that it is rare for the needed amount of the vitamin to be absorbed from a diet, so supplements are a must.

            Vitamin D

Vitamin D is produced when we’re in sunlight. Unless you spend a lot of time picnicking or bird watching, you probably aren’t getting enough Vitamin D. In fact, with air conditioning and sunscreen, most Americans suffer from Vitamin D deficiencies in the summer and this carries through to the cold months when they stay inside. The vitamin helps control calcium levels; in turn, calcium helps the proper function of the nervous and immune systems. Vitamin D deficiencies cause bone pain and muscle fatigue and have been associated with an increased risk of infection, risk of cancer, the risk of death from cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.

I must say Vitamin D has worked wonders for me as I am a long term thyroid sufferer but never knew my Vit D levels were at rock bottom.

I usually take Vitamin C as well but have to keep a continuous supply of Vitamin D to keep me going.

Thanks for your article on these two vitamins :)

Nutrients keep you healthy and beautiful. It best to take a balanced diet and fill all your vitamin needs naturally but in case of vitamin deficiency you can take supplements. Thanks for the very informative article.

Fruits and vegetables are available in terrific colours and flavors, but their genuine beauty lies in what's inside. Fruits and vegetables are great sources of many vitamins, minerals and also other normal substances that could guide guard you from persistent diseases
