Glutamine is an amino acid which is derived from other amino acids, glutamic acid. Benefits of Glutamine are many and have very important role in the health of immune system,digestive system muscle cells and other body functions. heavy exercise, infection, surgery and trauma can deplete the body's glutamine reserves particularly in muscle cells so glutamine supplement can help in these conditions. Sources of Glutamine: There is no daily requirement for glutamine as body can synthesise its own. High protein foods like meat, fish beans and dairy products contain certain amount of glutamine. Daily intake from food ranges from approximately 1 to 6 g. Therapeutic dosages: Therapeutic dosage of glutamine ranges from 3 to 30 g daliy devided into several doses. Scientific Evidence in Glutamine: 1. Infections in Athletes: A doble blind, placebo-controlled study evaluate the benefit of glutamine (5 g) taken at the end of excercise in 151 athletes. the result showed a significant decrease in infection among treated athletes. only 19 % athletes taking glutamine got sick, as 50 % of those who were taking glutamine. 2. Recovery from criticval illness: In this study 84 critically ill hospital patients were devided into two groups. one group recieved a norma diet and the other group received normal diet plus glutamine sduplement. Glutamine recieving group left the intensive care ward and hospital sooner as compare to other group. 3. HIV support: One double-blind, placebo controlled study of 25 people found that 30 g of glutamime for 7 days reduced diarrhoea caused by protease inhibitors nelfinavir combination supplements containig glutamine reserves HIV related weight loss. 4. Cancer Chemotherapy: Glutamine reduce the side effect of cancer chemotherapy. A double-blind , placebo-control trial of 70 people undergoing chemotherapy with the drug 5-FU for colorectal cancer found that 18 g daily glutamine reduce need of antidirrheal drugs. Double blind trial of 65 women undergoing various forms of chemotherapy for breast cancer receiving glutamine 30 g per day reduce the risk of dirrhea. 5. Angina: Through Double-blind, placebo-controlled trial on 10 people it was revealed that glutamine ( 80mg per kf of body weight ) enhance to ability of exercise in participants without showing the heart stress . 6. Crohn's Disease: It was proposed that glutamine is the treatment of crohn's disease, a disease of intestine. but two double-blind trial of 30 people found no benefit. Precautoins: 1.Those who are hypersensitive to monosodium glutamate(MSG) should use glutamine with caution as body metabolizes glutamine into glutamate. 2. Glutamine could be risky for people who are taking anti epileptic drugs which block the glutamine stimulation in brain. 3. High dose of L-glutamine supplement (more than 2 g per day ) may trigger episode of mania. This is a good find. I'm quite not aware of those benefits aforementioned. One of the things that I'm quite known of the glutamine is that it has various effects in reducing healing time after operations. It's great to know how glutamine works with those illness.

My friends somehow neglected the amino acid glutamine, and preferring to buy AMINO BCAA (although they are important too). However, glutamine is very much indispensable when recovering from stressful conditions, such as surgery, trauma, tissue damage and even intense exercise. In such cases, the amount of glutamine, which makes the body to recover enough.

This is some very interesting information about the health benefits of glutamine, however like another commenter said the grammatical issues and misspelled words do make the post a little hard to read. Also can you link to the sources of where you got that information? That would make this even better!

The most important benefit of glutamine is probably its effect on the immune system. Which in turn ofcourse means that you will recover faster, have less muscle damage and feel better at the gym!

Nice post thanks for sharing with us I had no idea glutamine was included in so many of the day to day foods that I eat. Always great to have amino acids included in foods rather than have to take an additional supplement pill keep posting.
